Iran finds more than a dozen fields in a year

South-Pars-Gas-Platforms1-Iran_resizeIRAN has discovered 13 new oil and gas fields holding a total of 14 billion barrels of oil and 45 trillion cubic feet of natural gas in the past year, according to the Oil Ministry’s Shana news agency.

The OPEC-member state also exported around 2.2mbpd in the past year topping US$69.1 billion oil revenue, Shana reported.

Mahmoud Mohaddes, director of exploration of National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC), said Iran is planning to explore new reserves of 500 million barrels of oil and 5tcf of gas per year for five years

During the past five years, the state oil firm has discovered 19 new oilfields and eight new gas reserves, he said.

Iran is OPEC's second-largest oil producer after Saudi Arabia. Iran produced 3.8mbpd in 2009.
